Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 03/17/2015

Receipts: 1187 Last Week: 4148 Last Year: NA

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 550-600 lbs sold steady to 5.00 lower, 650-700
lbs steers sold steady to weak all other weight classes of feeder steers were too
lightly tested for an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed.
All weight classes of feeder heifers sold with sharply lower undertones on a light
test. Quality played a large role in feeder cattle prices this week. Offerings this
week were of mostly average quality. Many offerings last week were of very high quality
for the feeder special this makes quality comparisons near impossible. In addition to
quality, flesh conditions were also heavier this week than in weeks past with many
cattle offering moderate to moderate plus flesh. Some offerings were carrying light
amounts of tag as well, these offerings were met with less demand. CME feeder cattle
contracts have given back some of the gains seen last week. This deflated buyer
confidence and helped push the feeder cattle complex lower this week. Weigh up cows
offered mostly average weigh-up conditions today. Slaughter cows sold with light to
moderate demand, on light offerings. Slaughter cows were too lightly tested last week
for an accurate market trend, however weak undertones abounded. Feeding cows sold with
light to moderate demand today. Prices for feeding cows were lower this week. Slaughter
bulls sold mostly steady with last weekís prices. Offerings were 74 percent feeder
cattle, 6 percent slaughter cows, 2 percent bulls, 12 percent feeding cows and cows
returning to the country, balance bred cows and heifers. Next sale will be Tuesday
March 24th, 2015.
